In 1944, Wayne County was declared a soil & water conservation district. The mission of this district was to serve as a local agency to manage, protect and conserve the county's soil, water and natural resources. In addition, the district was to assist landowners, municipalities, business and the agricultural communities in the best use and overall conservation of our natural resources.

Today the Wayne County Soil & Water Conservation District, SWCD, continues to serve the public with the highest level of quality and professionalism by delivering thirteen programs and services vital to our natural resources. We are an equal opportunity employer and provider.
